Download speed
Most of your online activity is probably considered downstream — visiting web pages, downloading files, streaming video or music, and some aspects of gaming. Download speed is how fast you can pull data from a server to you, which affects the speed and quality of downstream activities.
Upload speed
Upload speed and upstream activity is simply the opposite of download speed and downstream activity. It measures how fast your device sends data to others. Video chatting, sending big files, and some aspects of gaming make upload speed important.
